Indentured Servants | Gilliams of Virginia

GILLIAMs Arriving as Indentured Servants
Updated November 25, 2022

Background
Thousands of immigrants contracted themselves for labor to come to the new world, some to the Chesapeake region and others to the West Indies.

London and Bristol, England, contributed the largest numbers by far. Bristol alone registered about 10,000 emigrants.

Overview
Several GILLIAMs arrived as indentured servants. Indentured GILLIAMs whose destination was the West Indies—Barbados, Nevis, etc. have been included. None of these GILLIAMs have been identified. It is possible that Mary GWILLIM whose agent was John Mason and whose date of Indenture was September 13 1675 may be related to the Gilliams and Masons of Albemarle Parish.
